How do I order literature for my courses?

We collaborate with the Athenaeum bookstore to make literature available to you with student discount. You can find our web shop on this web page: https://www.acdweb.nl/en/boeken
Once you are on the Athenaeum site you can find the literature by navigating to the studybooks > university tab and filling in the dropdown menu’s.

We get your literature list (course related literature) from the Course Catalogue of the UvA and the VU. You can double check your literature by checking the Course Catalogue yourself by using these links:

If you order books you can collect them at the ACD room by asking the board members.

How do I install ChemDraw Professional?

I just created an account, but I can’t login.

This has to do with the activation of your account. The ACD board has to activate your account manually due to documents on the website that are for members only. The board regularly checks new accounts, so if your login fails just try it again later in the week.

Where can I buy laboratory supplies (lab coat, safety goggles and a lab journal)?

You can buy a lab coat, safety goggles and a box with building blocks for molecules with the board members in the ACD room using cash, debit and credit card.

For a lab journal, you need to go tot he Education Service Desk (ESC desk) of the UvA.

Where can I find information/answers to my questions regarding my bachelor/master?

2. ACD General Questions

The ACD has two bank accounts; to which account do I need to transfer money?

The ACD has two bank accounts with the ING bank, namely one for ACD related transfers and one for ABC related transfers. In most cases we indicate which account you need in the description of an event, but here is the main rule:

NL45INGB0000154992 for ACD related transfers, like membership fee, lab coats, lab goggles, merchandise, BEC, LEC and ONCS.

NL92INGB0696715414 for ABC related transfers, like topping up your bar account, parties, AJW, Sports and ABC activities.

How do I give another member of the ACD the power of attorney to vote for me during a General meeting?

Hand in a statement of Power of Attorney with a board member, before the start of the general meeting you want another ACD member to vote for you.

The statement needs to contain the following point to be valid:

  • Your name
  • Name of the person you give power of Attorney
  • Date of the general meeting
  • Your signature

Example:

I, Teddy Testtube [Your name], hereby give Frank Funnel [Name of the person you give power of Attorney] the power of Attorney during the General meeting of June 21st, 2017 [Date of the general meeting].

How do I buy soda, beer, wine and snacks?

In the ACD room you will find an iPad equipped with the ‘ACD kassa’ (ACD cashier)-app. You can create an account with the board members or ABC members. You can add credit to your account by using cash, debit card, credit card or bank transfer. Your account is secured by a PIN code.

In the ACD-room you can buy drinks and snack by using the iPad. First grab what you want to buy, then select those items on the iPad, press the button ‘rekening’ (account), find your account in the list, fill in your personal PIN and your are done with the transaction.

During our weekly drinks (borrels) the people behind the bar will use your account when you buy drinks, but it is also possible to pay with cash, debit cards or credit cards.

What does ‘Actief lid’ (Active member) mean?

The ACD has many committees which assist the board with organizing activities and other tasks within the association. ACD members who join one of more committees are considered ‘Actief lid’ (Active Member). On our website you can find an overview of all our committees, if you are interested in a function within one of our committees please do not hesitate to ask a board member.

The ACD also has a committee (CWAL) which organizes some activities and an Active Member weekend for all the active members to show our gratitude.

At the first floor in the B zone (near the Education Service Desk and library) there are glass studyspaces. These spaces can be booked on uva.mapiq.net

During exam weeks the ACD board together with the FSR will book a big study room which can be used by members.

What is the Opleidingscommissie (OC)?

The Opleidingscommissie (OC) is a committee which helps to maintain the quality of a bachelors/masters program. Chemistry has its own committee which can be reached by this mail address.
Every committee consists of a few professors/lecturers and a few students, they give advise to the organization of the program for improvement. As a student you can join the committee yourself when there is a vacancy, please send them a mail if you are interested.

5. UvA/VU/Faculty related

How do I book a study room?

What is the CSR/FSR?

The CSR stands for ‘Centrale Studentenraad’ (Central Student Council) and they are the students’ voice within the UvA (or VU).

The FSR stands for ‘Facultaire Studentenraad’ (Faculty Student Council) and they are the students’ voice within your own faculty. For example, the Faculty of Science has its own FSR. (FSR-FNWI)

Both councils are the students’ voice and regularly have meetings with the UvA Executive Board or athe Faculty Board to improve the students’ needs. Every year in May there are elections for the CSR and FSR. Each UvA student has one vote for the CSR and one vote for the FSR and the possibility to give himself or herself up to be elected.
